Pre FileMaker Pro 7 only one table per file was possible. With the release of FileMaker Pro 7, the application came of age with new architecture allowing multiple tables within one database file providing a structure for more complex relationships and tasks to be performed. Each consecutive release comes with more enhancements giving the user more functionality and developer more tools to do the job faster and more efficiently.

Consolidation is the process of taking advantage of the multi-table framework and involves merging some or all of the single table files into one or more files.
